Awards, Scholarships & Grants

As a professional body of the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation (ANMF Vic Branch), the Victorian Association of Maternal & Child Health Nurses (VAMCHN) is committed to providing financial support for members to further enhance their knowledge through professional development and additional study.

The awards, scholarships and grants available are: the Fran Morris Award: one for a maternal and child health nurse and one for a student maternal and child health nurse; two scholarships for further academic studies for VAMCHN members; two scholarships for professional development for VAMCHN members; and three Catherine Hewitt Memorial Scholarships are available to assist members to attend the VAMCHN conference. Criteria and requirements for these are listed below.

Fran Morris Award

This award is named after Fran Morris, in recognition of her contribution to, and promotion of, maternal and child health nursing.

MCH Nurses

A maternal & child health nurse

Students

Undertaking a course leading to practicing as a MCH nurse in Victoria


Criteria & Requirements for nomination of the Fran Morris Award

Recipients eligible for this awards must be:

  • A current member of VAMCHN
  • Eligible to practice in Victoria
  • MCH nurse - peer nomination
  • Student - papers/essays recommend by a lecturer
Written nominations to be received by VAMCHN Executive by 16th June 2021. Recipients will be announced at the AGM 11/8/2021

Catherine Hewitt Memorial Scholarships

Catherine Hewitt Memorial Scholarships are available to assist members to attend the VAMCHN conference.

Assistance for members to attend the VAMCHN Bi – annual conference:

MCH Nurses

One metropolitan, one regional rural MCH Nurse

Students

One student practicing to become a MCH nurse in Victoria

Catherine Hewitt received a scholarship from Glen Eira council to complete her maternal and child health studies after working as a registered nurse for eight years and a registered midwife for a further five years. Prior to embarking on a career in nursing, Catherine completed an Arts degree at Monash University. Catherine was employed by the City of Bayside for many years and was a dedicated member of VAMCHN executive and editor of the VAMCHN newsletter.

The scholarships for members to attend the Bi – annual conference have been named in her honour to acknowledge her dedication to VAMCHN. Three scholarships will be awarded to members of the Victorian Association of Maternal and Child Health members to assist them financially to attend the BI-Annual Victorian Association of Maternal and Child Health conference.

The Scholarships will be awarded to two MCH nurses, one metropolitan, one regional rural and one student to attend the Bi - annual conference. Scholarships will be available up to the value of $500 to assist rural / regional members to attend the conference.

Criteria & Requirements for nomination of the Catherine Hewitt Memorial Scholarship

  • Three scholarships will be awarded to VAMCHN members
  • Scholarships will be awarded to two MCH nurses, one metropolitan, one regional rural and one student
  • Scholarships will be available up to the value of $500

A written report following the conference will not be required in this instance and therefore a report will not be published.


Scholarships and Grants

VAMCHN encourages members to pursue personal development and offers financial support to assist members.

Two scholarships

To the value of $1,000 each for further academic studies (Masters, PhD or research). Applications for assistance will be considered and awarded based on merit.

Two grants

To the value of $750 each for professional development (conferences or training courses). Available to one metropolitan member and one rural member per year.
